What is PBR?
In Second Life, PBR stands for Physically Based Rendering, a major update that lets creators make virtual objects look incredibly realistic by simulating how light truly interacts with surfaces, adding realistic shine, roughness, reflections, and making textures pop with depth, replacing older methods for more immersive, lifelike environments.
What i Need?
To use Physically Based Rendering (PBR) in Second Life, you need a compatible viewer like the official Linden Lab Viewer, Firestorm (now fully integrated), Alchemy Viewer, Cool VL Viewer, and Genesis Viewer (check nightly builds/betas), as most major third-party viewers (TPVs) have updated to the new PBR lighting system for a more realistic look, though you'll need to adjust your scene lighting settings for best results.
It works with my old purchased designs?
Yes, old designs still working with new viewers.
Will work new PBR designs with my viewer?
You will If you are not sure, please try available free demos.
Do you miss having more brightness and reflections in your clothes?
The colors and reflections on your PBR leather or latex clothing can change depending on the environment, and even in daylight, you might notice that your leather outfits have very little shine. This is the "natural" way your PBR clothing will look in an environment without extra lighting.
That's why a few years ago we created a small add-on that adds a subtle lighting system to your avatar, giving your clothing a more vibrant look regardless of your surroundings.
This lighting system is added for free in any of our items.
